(10/31/22) Field Outing: Martell Forestry Center 3D Scan with Skydio 2 Platform

On November 1st, the Purdue AT 309 class flew a mission at the John Wright Martell Forestry Center. The goal was to use the 3D mapping capabilities that the Skydio 2/2+ have to offer. My flight crew (4) captured a images of Professor Hupy’s truck to be modeled at a later date. Here is a picture collected during lab.

Picture above is the truck used for the Skydio 3D scan.

The Skydio platform performed exceptionally at collecting a large sum of photos in a small area for operations. The vision-based navigation really proved itself during the flight. Timing remained the most important factor of the flight as there was on and off rain all day.
